Too many families in our community are struggling to choose between buying groceries and paying their rent. According to the Halifax Housing Needs Assessment, about 1 in 4 households spent more than 30% of their income on housing, while another 12% spends more than 50% of their income on housing. *

Dartmouth needs more affordable housing.

Solidarity Halifax is calling on the city to ensure affordable housing for all communities by introducing:

  • municipal rent controls
  • inclusionary zoning to ensure that all new housing developments include affordable, family-sized housing
  • landlord licensing to ensure that all rental buildings are proactively inspected and meet basic, minimum standards.
